Dear friend

We adopted Simba ~10/11 years ago. The previous owner put him and his sister up for adoption as her partner, a cruel and disgusting human being, partially cut the tail of the girl and stomped on the head of my beloved boy, leading to him having to have his eye removed.

His whole life, he has been skittish around anyone new, especially men - quite literally the definition of a “scaredy cat”. But once he opened up to you, he would love you unconditionally and cry for attention. He may have lost an eye, but he made up for it with twice the heart, and never let ounce of malice build in him; never bit or clawed, never hissed, never caused any problems - a truly good cat.

And he never let the loss of his eye stop him. One night he was running around the house with zoomies, making inexplicable noises - as if he caught a bird or a mouse. He was playing with it and acted so proud at his prize. It was a leaf. He caught a leaf.

He's been getting sick and weak lately, and hasn't eaten solid food for a week or two. Today, we had to say goodbye.

We loved him as he was, and gave him the best possible life we could.

I love you Simba, and I'll miss you.

I don't always take photos of my cats, but when I do, they're the best photos in the world.
